Look and Feel of the Application

For the look and feel of the application that I want to create, I want to have it feel like a streaming service. The application I am creating is essentially a streaming service for school textbooks after all, so naturally, I would want the application to feel like that.

I imagine the user interface of the application to look similar to that of Netflix's.

PC:

Mobile:

As most people will have used Netflix at some stage, this is to ensure a familiar experience when using the application, so as not to make it too complicated to use.

There will be buttons at the bottom of the screen which will give you a selection of where you want to go, and throughout the pages, you'll see the subjects, as well as what language and/or country the book is from. As you scroll through the home page, you will find the most relevant books for you and your subjects.

Colours:
For this application, I actually plan to give the user a choice on what colour scheme that you can use. There will be two choices. A bright mode which is the default (using a white and red colour palette) and a dark mode (using a black and red colour palette). This is inspired by how both YouTube and the Nintendo Switch allow you to change between these two modes.

Fonts:
We understand that for an application solely about reading textbooks (and interacting with them in some fashion) we want to have a suitable font for reading the user interface. However, we want to use a font that looks professional and not goofy, to parallel the professionalism of the application.

Although each textbook will have the font it was written in originally, for the user interface, I plan to use the font Warnock Pro.
I feel a font like this would feel professional for an application dedicated to educational resources. Not to mention, it is also easy to read.

Transitions:
For this one, I want to keep this one really simple. For any windows that appear in the application, we will have a sliding transition to show how it appears. And to go in between textbooks and other sections of the application, we will use fades. Turning from page to page will feature a page turn transition, to simulate how a real book would have its page turned. When one is listening to audio tracks from a CD that the textbook comes with, skipping it will have a fading transition for one second.
